Coaching
What is coaching?
Coaching is a personalized process that supports one in moving from where they are to where they want to be. While this sounds linear, it’s usually not.
I hold coaching as a dialogue, which means a reciprocity—the center of which is your concerns, desires, goals, intentions, purpose and the like. Together we will explore the questions and directions unique to your true life.
Generally coaching involves reaching into various areas of life, including, but not limited to work, relationships, interests, etc.
All that said, this work is always rooted in these five areas, which we all share:
👤 the body – the work is somatic – the body is our ‘home base’ and the primary transmitter of information. We’ll work to connect (and re-connect) to this invaluable resource.
❤️ the heart – the work is emotional – we are feeling creatures, and our emotions are an important part of decision making, creativity, and living full lives. We’ll tap into this wellspring of intuitive insight.
🌀 the spirit – the work is bigger than us – this is our larger orientation in the world. No matter how you hold the idea of “spirit”, the idea here is how do we orient to the context that we find ourselves in? We’ll work together to understand that context and create an orientation that works for you.
👥 relationship – the work happens ‘in the space between’ – we are always in relationship with something—be it other humans, our work itself, the world outside, our conditioning and shaping, or something else. This is the seat of the conversation/dialogue; ultimately the core of this work.
✨ the mind – the work makes sense . . . eventually – intentionally de-centered, the mind is a powerful tool that is often over-utilized and over-centered in our culture. We’ll work to incorporate the logical mind as one of a suite of tools, as opposed to the be-all-end-all.
My Approach
My approach to coaching is dialogic, meaning based in a conversation both between us (you and me) as well as between you and the future you are working to build. The circ.al approach has what we could call five “stages”, though they may appear at the same time, out of order, or seemingly not at all, depending on the journey you are on.
Those stages are:
🗺️ Orient: Understand your situation / context; Map the “gap”; Get to understand your perspectives and points of view; Understand your history and lived experience.
❓ Inquire: Begin to make sense of your situation / context; Try to understand why the gap is there; Begin to discern what belongs and what doesn’t; Get feedback; Tap into your core desires and truth; Step into the body (embodiment).
🧘🏻♂️ Presence: Allowing ourselves to “drift”, Get quiet long enough to listen, see what is beginning to emerge.
🍥 Prototype: Experiment, play; Work with the ‘minor gestures’ that are showing up; Identify a thread and take a step; Fail; Fail again. And again.
🧬 Integrate: Bring what works into practice; generate rhythms and rituals
